Welcome to the “Week in Focus”, where we discuss notable internet finds that we found interesting. Whether you’re catching up on missed content or revisiting familiar topics, feel free to explore.

Our aim is to highlight significant topics in a light-hearted, brief, and enjoyable way. While nothing here is overly serious, we believe everything is worth your time. We hope you take something away from this, hopefully, weekly series.

This week, there’s been an abundance of Leica SL3 articles, reviews, and hype. We’re spotlighting a beautifully documented Fortis story with incredible storytelling. Additionally, we’re highlighting some upcoming events and more!

The Leica SL3 Hype!

It’s true; this week has been inundated with SL3 hype, reviews, comments, videos, Instagram stories, and more. It’s a big product release! We have already published our own press content, which you can check out here and here. But here are some tidbits from around the web we found interesting.

Kai W’s “The SL3 Is a Bargain”

This is pure hilarity! Kai and and Tim Pan offer a fun and exciting first look at the Leica SL3 in addition to a review of the Leitz Hotel. We wish we could be this funny, but we’re not so we’ll leave that to them! Also, note that beautiful vintage Sub on Kai’s wrist. Kai, why didn’t you talk about that more? What is up? Joking aside, we greatly enjoyed Kai’s straightforward and honest opinion of the Leica SL3. Why is the SL3 a bargain? Watch and find out.

Take Kayo First Look at the SL3

Take gives a nice “Middle of the Road” perspective on the SL3. His thoughts are pretty well-balanced, and we appreciate that. The SL3 isn’t for everyone, but it is amazing! What’s that on your wrist, Take, Sinn? Tell us more!

Om Malik – On Your Own: Leica SL3 First Impressions

If you’re not familiar with Om Malik’s blog On Your Own, it’s worth reading today. Om reviews the SL3 and provides a fresh perspective and overview of his thoughts on the system as he transitions from SL 601 to SL2-S and now to SL3.

Fortis Marinemaster: A Dive into the Heart of Marine Conservation

Fortis dives into the heart of marine conservation with a beautifully shot film and well told story about marine conservation and Fortis’s support of these endeavors. Fortis is telling stories similar to the ones we came to know from brands like Rolex and Sir Edmund Hillary with the Rolex Explore, but in a new light. These stories are for a new generation, a new time, and with new priorities. We like this intersection of visual storytelling and watches together.

In addition to this great film, Fortis has launched a conversation around the film on their YouTube channel. This conversation is in German, but it can be watched with English subtitles.

Cameras & Coffee Meets the Fujifilm X100VI!

We’re excited to have our Walnut Creek store partner with Cameras & Coffee for a hands-on event with Fujifilm and a micro workshop with Reggie Ballesteros on using Jpeg recipes instead of always shooting Raw images and editing in post. Cameras & Coffee Club is a Bay Area collective of photographers that combines their passions for cameras, storytelling, and coffee! Stay caffeinated and join us at Camera West Walnut Creek for this very special event.

Using Recipes and Shooting JPEG with Reggie Ballesteros

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSXMoQ2GQI4

On the topic of the Fujifilm X100VI, although not exclusively for this camera, Bay Area photographer and YouTuber Reggie Ballesteros talks about his experience shooting JPEG on a variety of cameras using in-camera recipes rather than the traditional Raw image workflow in Lightroom. His insight around keeping the workflow simple and in the camera to achieve your own personal look is not only intriguing but quite liberating if you get a chance to try it out.

Reggie will be leading our micro-workshop at the Walnut Creek Store on the 3/24
