On May 20th, 2024, we were excited to showcase some of Fujifilm’s new products at Camera West, Walnut Creek. Fujifilm Sales Representative Barney Tong was present to answer questions about the new gear.

This year’s new products include two new camera bodies and two new lenses. The bodies are the anticipated GFX 100s II and the powerful yet compact X-T50. The lenses are the GF 500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR (Not Shown) and the XF 16-50mm f2.8-4.8 R LM WR.

The theme for these new cameras is smaller and lighter. The smaller and slimmer GFX 100s II feels really good in the hands while packing much of the same performance features of it’s beefier counterpart, the GFX 100 II. Having this compact of a body with the new GFX 102MP CMOS II sensor plus imaging stabilization that is good for up to 8 – stops is remarkable, considering it has roughly the same size and bulk as some leading full-frame mirrorless cameras on the market.

My personal favorite was checking out the new X-T50. This tiny beast packs a whopping 40.2-megapixel X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor and a new dedicated film simulation dial that offers fast access to 20 Film Simulations. This camera also supports 6.2K/30P, 4K/60P, FHD/240P, and 4:2:2 10-bit Video. Paired with the new 16-50mm f2.8-4.8 R LM WR, which incorporates a slimmer and lighter form than previous kit lenses and an internal focusing mechanism, this is the perfect compact system with minimum sacrifice on quality and performance.

Thank you to Fujifilm and Barney for allowing us to have a firsthand look at these stunning new pieces, and thank you to all of our patrons for your support. You can pre-order any of the new pieces here from Camera West or by contacting us directly. Also, be sure to check out our upcoming collaborative photo excursion with Fujifilm at the USS Hornet in Alameda, CA, where we will have a hands-on workshop with the entire Fujifilm GFX line.
