First Look: The Fujifilm X-M5, XF 16-55mm f2.8 R LM WR II & XF 500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR

Fujifilm announced three exciting additions to the Fujifilm X-Series lineup this week. Norman at our Walnut Creek, California store had the opportunity to take a first look at these items before their release and give us a quick insight into what they are, who they’re for, and why we’re interested!

Fujifilm continues to innovate with compact yet extremely capable cameras. If you’ve seen our first look at the new X100VI, you’ll note that we really enjoy these smaller cameras for a variety of reasons. Smaller cameras are simply more enjoyable to use than our phones, and for those of us looking for a compact camera to accompany us in our daily lives, cameras in this category of compact mirrorless cameras fit the bill quite nicely. Most of all they divest of of our phone, and engage us in a different way with the world around us.

The Fujifilm X-M5 packs many features for those moving from the convenience of their phone to something a bit more technical for content creation. The X-M5 might be small, but it packs a punch with 20 film simulations, a 26.1 X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor, and up to 6.2K video recording. Of course, it also features the same X mount that is compatible with a plethora of X series lenses, from small primes all the way up to telephoto lenses. The X-M5 seamlessly integrates with the FUJIFILM X App for effortless incorporation into your mobile workflow.

The Fujifilm X-M5 is currently available to pre-order in Silver from us here at Camera West, both as a camera-only option and as a kit with the 15-45mm zoom lens. A black-finish version will be available in the spring of 2025.

Fujifilm X-M5 Features at a Glance:

In addition to the new X-M5, Fujifilm revises the 16-55mm f2.8 LM WR and adds the FUJINON XF500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens in White. The 16-55mm f2.8 lens features a newer, lighter chassis (about 37% lighter) and a new silent autofocus system perfect for filming and motion picture making. Additionally, the revised Fujifilm 16-55mm f2.8 R LM WR II includes an extra ED element, delivering less chromatic aberration, better clarity, and smoother bokeh when used wide open. These are all welcome additions to Fujifilm’s “24-70mm f2.8 medium zoom workhorse” equivalent lens for the X series system—an attractive upgrade considering both the performance and form factor improvements. The Fujifilm 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR II is available for pre-order from Camera West Stores here.
